We make every effort to place qualified applicants in their first choice program. Because we often have significantly more applicants than available spots for each voice part, we strongly encourage you to pick a second choice program. Not providing a second choice does not increase the likelihood of being placed in a program.

BCI programs are designed for individual choral singers who are looking for new or elevated opportunities to sing. Going on tour with your home chorus is a great thing – but that’s not what we do. We build experiences for you and like-minded choristers from across North America and around the globe with world-class conductors in interesting venues.
Our traditional singing weeks – and most of our programs – are designed to satisfy experienced choral singers. Most of our programs are not auditioned, but we will evaluate your musical background as part of our application process. In general, if you sing successfully with a local community chorus, can read music and hold your own part in moderately difficult choral repertoire, and have the vocal and physical stamina for two daily rehearsals, you are a good candidate for BCI. Please visit our Eligibility page for more information.
When we say your voice belongs at BCI, we mean it. We sing in an atmosphere of kindness, shared learning, and mutual respect. We work hard to ensure that BCI events are inclusive, equitable, and welcoming. Black, Latinx, Asian/Pacific Islander, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ singers will find a home here along with people from all corners of the globe. Most of our programs are designed with the experienced amateur choral singer in mind. Please see our eligibility page for more about our musical guidelines and application process.
Our full week programs combine an intensive rehearsal schedule along with ample free time for socializing and sightseeing. You can expect two full chorus rehearsals each day, along with sectionals and classes on various musical topics, a conversation with our conductor of the week, and entertainment from our faculty and apprentices. Generally afternoons are free time.

Our shorter programs have variable schedules which balance rehearsal time with free time.

If you have specific questions about your program, please contact us. For all programs, please note that BCI may adjust the daily schedule based on venue and artist availability. We will send a schedule for your specific program at least 30 days in advance of arrival.
Yes, we have many first-time singers joining our events. We provide roommate matching service, orientation events, shared meals, sectionals, and socials that will help welcome you into our singing community. Some of the most frequent feedback we receive is about the value of lifelong friendships that were made at BCI. (There have even been some BCI-inspired weddings, but we make no guarantees!)
For our traditional singing weeks, BCI choruses average from 100-150 participants including our esteemed voice faculty. Workshops and special event registration will vary based on topics and repertoire.
Absolutely! BCI is a complete music-immersion experience for all participants, including the conductor. There are many opportunities to get to know your conductor-of-the-week, from a Q&A session to shared meals and more!
We work to provide great value for your unique BCI experience. For our traditional singing weeks, your tuition covers lodging, most meals, access to fine rehearsal and concert venues, and the opportunity to sing with a professional orchestra and work with world class faculty, soloists, and conductors. Travel to and from the event location are on your own.
Tuition for shorter workshops and non-traditional weeks may vary, so check the details for your specific program. We are happy to respond to any questions you might have.
Each BCI singing week will typically have two rehearsals a day, and a final rehearsal on concert day. Rehearsals are 2 – 3 hours long. Be prepared for over 30 hours of singing during your week!
Believe it or not, there is still plenty of time for making new friends, exploring the local area and relaxing.
