BCI Apprentice Program Applications

BCI Apprentice Program Applications

2024 Apprentice and Vocal Scholar applications being accepted through Feb. 1

Applications are open for Berkshire Choral International’s competitive Apprentice Program. The program includes free tuition, music and coaching, housing and meals (a total value between $2800 and $4700), and a reimbursed travel stipend (currently up to $800 for domestic weeks and $1500 for international weeks).

Each week-long program (Amherst, MA; Denver, CO; and Vienna, Austria in 2024) is an intensive choral experience where apprentices study and rehearse major choral-orchestral works with eminent conductors and soloists. BCI’s Summer 2024 season includes Joe Miller conducting Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony at UMass Amherst; Eugene Rogers leading Geter’s Justice Symphony and Faure’s Requiem at University of Denver; and Erin Freeman conducting Bruckner’s Te Deum plus Schubert and Elgar in Vienna.

This program is designed for career-track singers, choral conductors, and accompanists enrolled in undergraduate, master’s, or doctorate degree level programs. Recently graduated students may also be considered. Details of the Apprentice Program and duties can be found here.

Also new for 2024: A Tenor/Bass Vocal Scholars Program. Less rigorous than the Apprentice Program, it is designed primarily for undergraduate music students who are strong choral singers. The 2024 program is for four tenor or bass singers who will learn and sing the repertoire of both BCI programs in Amherst and Denver.

BCI is committed to creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive experience for choral singers. Black, Latinx, Asian/Pacific Islander, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ identified students are strongly encouraged to apply. Application requirements are at: http://developer.island-wizards.com/apply/apprentice-application.

Apply by Feb. 1, 2024 to either program. Please direct questions to shager@berkshirechoral.org.
