Margaret Woods

Margaret Woods, soprano, has quickly established a diverse career of opera, new music, concert & crossover work. Her performances have brought her praise for her expressive and clear sound as well as her honest dramatic interpretations. In the 2023/2024 season, Margaret premiered Wells Hanley’s Hearing Voices for the podcast This Jungian Life and performed a Valentine soirée with tenor Pablo Talamante at Cafespresso. She served as soprano soloist for Corigliano’s Fern Hill with the University of Richmond’s Schola Cantorum and collaborated with Tonality and the Kronos Quartet for the recording of Michael Abels’ At War With Ourselves. In 2021, she portrayed Marie-Thérèse in RVA Baroque’s world premiere of the opera Julie Monster. As an active recitalist, Margaret won third place in the Sparks & Wiry Cries SongSlam Competition in 2022. She has appeared on various local music series, including the Williamsburg Music Club, the Gellman Room Concert Series, and Concerts at Trinity. Margaret headlined for Encore Choral Institute at the Chautauqua Amphitheater in New York and participated in an interview on VPM Radio about Lili Boulanger’s Clairières dans le ciel.

Beyond her singing career, Margaret is dedicated to teaching voice and vocal pedagogy. She serves as adjunct voice faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University, Berkshire Choral International, and Encore Choral Institute, and has been a guest lecturer at esteemed institutions. Students in her private voice studio have achieved success, winning competitions and gaining acceptance into prestigious music programs. Margaret holds degrees from Lebanon Valley College in Music Education (B.S.) and Music (B.A.) and an M.M. in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College.
