BCI comes to Virginia Tech’s Moss Arts Center under the direction of Dr. Jenny Wong, Sat. July 15, 2023
Berkshire Choral International, a not-for-profit educational institution that expands the horizons of adult choral singers, brings one of its signature singing weeks to Virginia Tech in July, 2023. 100 singers from across the world will attend an intensive week of rehearsals under the leadership of acclaimed conductor Jenny Wong. The week culminates with a public concert on Saturday, July 15 at 7:30 pm at VT’s Moss Arts Center.
The concert, led by Jenny Wong, will feature Carl Orff’s extravagant and theatrical Carmina Burana, filled with medieval-inspired dancing, drinking, debauchery, and romance. With propulsive rhythms and soaring choral lines, it’s a singer showpiece. The program is paired with Brahms’ Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny), considered one of his best choral works.
The New River Valley Sinfonia will join the program along with a distinguished trio of vocal soloists. The Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir will also be featured in the performance. Tickets for the program are $15 general admission ($5 for youth under 18). Tickets may be reserved online at https://bit.ly/BCI2023VT or by phone at 540-231-5300.
Dr. Jenny Wong is Associate Artistic Director of the Grammy-winning Los Angeles Master Chorale. Recent conducting engagements have included the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, Long Beach Opera, and Los Angeles Philharmonic Green Umbrella Series. Vocal soloists for the program include soprano Anna Schubert; Arnold Geis, tenor; and Daniel Rich, baritone.
The BCI Festival chorus is comprised of 100 talented choral singers from across the United States, Europe and Asia who are coming to BCI for this seven-day intensive program hosted at VT. Berkshire Choral International expands the horizons of singers through participation in exhilarating performances, enriching travel and cultural exploration, lifelong music education, and connection to an inspiring community of choral artists. Over the past 40 years, BCI has enriched the lives of almost 9,000 singers through our week-long choral music programs under the batons of dozens of the world’s great conductors in prestigious venues throughout the U.S. and Europe.
